What is The Best Martial Arts For Street Fighting?

Street fighting is very different from fighting somebody in a ring. People who get into a street fight with fancy moves that they’ve learned from a video usually end up getting a beat-down. Some forms of martial arts are great in street fights, while others may actually hinder you. Some forms of martial arts are very popular because of their effectiveness with striking and power, but there is no single best martial art for street fighting because it really depends on the person using it. That being said, there are many martial arts that prove highly effective in a real fight.

Boxing

Boxing fightBoxing is one of the most effective forms of martial arts (there is much debate about whether boxing is a martial art of not), and it is also among the most effective forms of fighting in general. Boxing involves heavy conditioning of the hands to make them strong. In a street fight, most of us end up using our hands rather than our legs, so if you’ve only learned the basics of boxing, it will still make a great companion.

Striking with your hands is one of the most basic techniques used in fighting, and boxing is all about striking. Remember that even though we have less power in our hands, the speed is far greater than a kick.

Many of the best moves in fighting come from boxing like the jab, the hook and the uppercut.  These are all highly effective and in a street fight, where there is hardly any time to size up the opponent, boxing can really end up saving your life. If used properly, you can easily knock somebody out with a single and nicely timed punch.

Boxing is all about timing and it’s a great asset in a real fight. It is also effective for defense since the footwork in boxing is nothing short of amazing.

Muay Thai

Muay thai fighterIn many ways, Muay Thai is one of the best forms of martial arts to pick up. It is also a rigorous discipline and takes a lot of effort to learn but once mastered it is one of the deadliest fighting techniques in the world. A majority of the fighting in this style is done through the use of knees and elbows which are among the toughest parts of our body. Besides that, Muay Thai also involves the use of a lot of low and powerful kicks. This style is not as showy as other styles, but it certainly gets the job done. This style also involves fighting at close range to help grapple the opponent and splatter them with elbows and knees. This is one of the best martial art for street fighting without a shadow of a doubt.

Brazilian Jujitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu matchBrazilian Jujitsu is one of the most effective styles of fighting in the world today be it in a Mixed Martial Arts ring or on the streets. It is not a striking style but has many grappling and take-down moves that will allow you to disable your opponent within seconds. It also allows you to place the threat into an excruciating submission that could easily snap somebody’s bones off. This style is effective against all types of opponents and even a person with a small body can be really effective using this style. The locks and holds that are involved in this technique can easily incapacitate the opponent, and it is ideal to have them in your arsenal.

Although martial arts can in fact help you in a real fight, limiting yourself to just martial arts alone is not the best course of action. There are many more effective street fighting techniques that are not taught in a martial arts classes which can greatly increase your chances of survival in such situations.
